Clutter

I dislike clutter. If your number has been sitting idle in my phone for the last 2 months i.e no sort of activity including texting and the like, chances are it will probably be deleted.
My IM lists in total has about 5-7 active people. I deleted the 1 million other inactive folk who I randomly chatted with one and off.
I am constantly downsizing stuff from my closet...

Yes, I dislike clutter.

And it gets extra awkward when such idle inviduals randomly text you out of the blue with 'What's up blahblahblah' and I'm thinking 'who is this?'. Back in the day I tried to be nice about it and cook up some excuse about 'I switched phones and your number didn't make it'.
These days I straight up ask 'who is this?' and I get responses like 'ah ah, is that how it is?'

Nothing personal sis/bro...I just do not like clutter.

I noticed that I had been deleted off about 2 individuals' Facebook friends lists and I wasn't even mad at that. If I was in their shoes and I was some inactive random person on their list, I would probably delete me too.

Sometimes I wonder if I should make space for a little clutter.
For instance, in the case of the deleted numbers. I figure that it's not a bad thing to hold on to people's numbers just in case of incasity, but then I figure that is what facebook is for right? right.
I mean, I'm more lenient with the FB thing. So if there was any in case of incasity event that came up, I could always contact you on Facebook and possibly ask for your # or something.

It is just a huge peeve to be scrolling through my phonebook looking for a number and I find a whole bunch of random ass digits that are making it even harder to find what I am looking for.
Or ya know, I don't understand why I should have a whole bunch of folk on my IM list that I don't even talk to like that.

And I don't think that it's a bad idea to de-clutter one's blog list too. I mean are you really going to be reading and commenting on someone's blog and they never/hardly ever check on you? Or is that petty?

Either way, de-cluttering rocks!

So, do you keep the stagnant folk around in case of incasity or are you a constant 'downsizer' like me?

Don't like clutter but never dealt with it. Might just be nice to delete some numbers in my phone, but because of incasity, I have to leave the numbers...

LOL @ I would probably delete me too

I don't know why I hang onto all those numbers in my phonebook but I don't want to not know who is texting or calling...I feel so guilty :$

I am always downsizing, from my FB friends to IM list to my phone book. Clutter is not good jo, & people just want to know your business on FB.

I have leave some 4 incasity sha. Esp now that I am an entrepreneur.

Lmao... I honestly don't believe you just used the phrase "..in case of incasity.." three times in your post!!!
I've not heard that in ages and three come along at the same time..!!
I tend to do a bit of de-cluttering randomly.. Problem is I tend to start looking for an item I got rid of six months ago for not needing..
So now I'm more.. 'flexible' :)

I always declutter my facebook and phone book too...sometimes I scroll through and cant remember the person., rings no bells so I delete them..

Recently decluttered my blog list, was full of people who no longer blog...I dont visit everyone who visits me but I try to add them to the list if they have come at least 2wice or 3 times...I only ever visit blogs that have updated on my list...

Zena said...

ummm the blog list thing is a little bit difficult, like I cant get myself to delete Zephi or T.L.K, or NaijaFyne boi's links, I dunno...but I just stop commenting If I dont get a reply, a hi, after I have come on somebody's blog more than 4 times and get no love, lol...I'm sorry I do

With F.B, and fone's if I don't talk to you or if i don't think you'll be instrumental to my future or any hook-ups, I press the delete button, I delete everything, even if its not my fone,
I hate clutter, if i don't wear something, I either give it out or salvation army it

few days ago I found myself doing the same thing with phonebook. Numbers stored at random, probably a primary school mate you met at "Game" or the cinemas...funny circumstances

Many numbers are better left deleted for a breath of fresh air than to keep a cobweb of them jare!

Bumight: Yes, you should.

Rita: Sometimes those #'s come in handy but ah well...

Bob-Ij:Wow, 4000? You try o! I used to feel guilty, now I no send.

Temite: So much for data analysis yeah? :-p

Ibis-W: Some people so not get the hint o. Esp the ones that you decline their friend requests 'cos you don't know them and they re-add you. Yeyerism.

O'Dee: There is something I want to launch, and I figure I will need to keep #'s for business purposes. Argh, can't I just save 'em somewhere else?

RocNaija: Na why I be the original Mgbeks na. In case of incasity my brother. :D...I should learn some flexibility.

LG: Hahahaha, no o..no be ya eye, no be film trick. :D
Yes those #'s can come in useful later. Maybe I fit ask person why potentially get the #.

Afrobabe: Thought it was only me. Some #'s I look at them like 'who is this??'...DELETE. Yeah blogging/visiting blogs na work, I do try to visit people who leave comments and all.

Zena: I am holding out for NDQ o...that one I haven't deleted. But you really think like me. *Hi five*

Downtheaisle: You know?? Like make I free up space for other things o jare.

I am not the best at keeping physical clutter under control, but I don't play with my people decluterring... :)

I have a very low threshold for other people's BS, so when it just starts to become a bit too much for me to handle, you're cut off. Easy.

I did some major de-cluttering last year and my year has been improved DRAMATICALLY! So do You, darling!

(I didn't know you could find out when someone unfriended you on FB? I actually do not accept friendships of people I barely know. If you're not someone I care to know about, I don't accept your request)

I like how u put it....CLUTTER!
I'm definitely not one for clutter, except when it has to do with shoes maybe.

I've definitely deleted more than a few ppl.

I am the opposite. I keep everything. My life is clutter(in a good way) I feel eevrything has a memory attached to it, and I never want to let go. I am weired like that!

I am SO good at physical decluttering that it makes my siblings want to tear out their hair!

Once I start, I throw every 'useless' thing out and you see them rushing outside, rummaging through the stuff to see if they could salvage anything. And I'm like, save whatever you want but don't let me see it in here!

Yup! Just like a tyrant! lol!

Unfortunately, I'm not so good with decluttering my phone book or facebook. I try to do it once every year. My rule is that if there's no activity between us for the whole of one year, and we are not related in anyway, then your number gets deleted. I feel guilty sometimes but I'm yet to get a phone call from anyone whose number I already deleted. So I guess it was the right thing to do after all!

Now this comment is too long. Sorry! lol!

My name is Chioma and i am a hoarder!!! maybe i need a decluttering manuel or sumfin cuz my religion is never to throw away or let go of things...( weirdly enuff i do this just for clothes)sigh...i have tried o to join a "declutter" group many a times, but i no get liver to even start. Ok i guess i need to get to it then..so am starting with my phonebook, although i reckon that the best way to avoid clutter is never to let it accumulate in the first place, seee acceptance, now i need to apply this mantra and do as you do. now what to do with the fb list bit, each time before i accept that random potential stalker as a fb friend, i will sternly ask myself..WWMD?? lol

Missy Sula: Really? You come off as extra organized. And yay to less/no drama. Hmmm as per that FB steez, you find out when you try to click on their profile for some reason and you no fit.

WordMerchant: That is my mentality. i guess we are both crazy. :-)

MizChif: I may be guilty of the shoes bit though. A girl can never have too many. ;-)

Ms. O: Let gooooo. You just might love the feeling.

Brownskin: The incase of incasity attitude does work for some people.

Enkay: No probs jare. We think alike on that one, although the numbers do not stay in for up to a year. LOL

Original Mgbeke said...

Dabizniz: Hmm even the text sef, taking up unneccesary space.

Beulah: Like Enkay said, I can't think of any deleted contact that has really made it back. But yeah, I may need them some day...

AlooFar: So you declutter, they make it back, you declutter and accumulate more? lol

WriteFreak: I have toyed with the idea of keeping them in an address book or something.

Culturecynic: LOL, you are a trip! WWMD indeed, 'cos you know she would DECLINE in the first place. ;)

Lil spider: LOL...I don't like my desktop looking crowded o. You are funny...

Plus it doesn't really take up space on my laptop anyway.. Downsized my FB list from just under 1000 to sthng like 300, everyone of whom has a valid reason to be there.

i used to declutter 4 a living! papers r d first 2 go, cos i collect books/magazines/receipts/lists/everything written on paper. one day, am cleaning up & everything just goes. unfortunately, i've thrown away important bits of paper. d info on dem r now gone, & i feel really bad about it.

i declutter phones numbers too, & i try to back them up on my nokia suite first, cos i may never know wen it'd b useful. same goes for text messages & notes.

my fb lists haven't checked, & daz 4 a crazy silly reason oh. cos i enjoy d number of friends dat keep increasing. makes me feel important. hehehehehehehe. i decluttered my blog list wen i changed template, now i can't visit all d sites i used to. now, dat makes me feel so bad, especially now i don't blog as regularly as i used to.

I usually de-clutter my phone after a while but I just cannot bring myself to delete some numbers even if I haven't talked to the owners in months, sometimes even years. I always just imagine how awkward it would be having to explain y I deleted their numbers.

PS dp not delete me from ur blogroll. I know I dont update but it just makes me feel gooooood (lol) to c me name up there.

Geebee said...

De-cluttering is definitely a good idea. I do it every now and then especially on my phones. I do a random deleting every three months or thereabout and usually I delete like 50 or more contacts each time . . . numbers I always have to store again whenever the fella remembers to check on me after like forever. I’ve not yet extended it to my facebook or messenger lists and I guess I’ll take a cue from you and do just that . . . even my blog list too needs de cluttering especially those that hardly check my spot or update theirs . . .
