Bye Bye Blogroll

In a random and very impulsive moment, I deleted my blogroll. I may regret it tomorrow, but at that moment it felt oh-so good! It still does.
You see, the essence of the 'Eze goes to school' list was to organize the blogs that I like and constantly want to check up on and possibly be the numero uno to shout 'FIRST' when someone updates.
On the other hand, I felt that the darn list was putting me in a BOX. All I seemed to be reading was bloggers in my blogroll, and not paying much attention to much of anything else save for the occasional new folk who stumbled across mine and left me a comment, then I would return to their blogs and check them out as well. True, blogging/reading blogs takes up so much time but there are so many bloggers out there who write beautifully and speak with much wisdom and I don't wanna miss out on those people just 'cos I'm sticking to my regular routine.
May I use this opportunity to shout the lovely Uchenna out? I enjoy reading what she has to say, and that is true talk.
Note to Uchenna: Abeg fix your comment box! I can't leave comments for some odd reason.

And then, I thought about how if a blog was on my roll and I was on their roll, did it mean that I was obligated to comment on every damn post they make as a way of marking my presence? If someone made an entry like 'I went to the grocery store', why the hell do I gotta respond with 'Oh nice! what did you get?'...wetin consain me with you and the grocery store?

I ask because there's been some bloggers on the roll, who also have/had me on their own rolls and who I may have visited their blogs regularly because I was interested in what they had to say, and they checked mine out randomly/when the mood hit but I hella see them as regulars on everyone else's blog, and you know what? I will admit that initially I was taking that ish personally and then it dawned on me like 'Maybe this person just isn't interested in what I have to say today', 'Maybe my tori is too long and folk have ADHD', or 'Maybe they just aint feeling the tori today' and ya know, I aint even mad at that.

It's a free world, and blogsville is just as free as the world is. We are free to talk about whatever we want to talk about, be it 'I went to the grocery store and bought an apple' or 'I had an out of body experience yesterday morning'. We are free to visit whoever we want to visit, we are free to read who we want to read, and we are free to stumble across a blog or 2 and decide 'I can't relate to this ish' and click the red X at the top right hand of your computer screen.

I'm still gonna read who I read and comment if I want to comment, but I'm not bound by a blog update schedule or a list. I'm gonna click on random names in random people's comment boxes, just to see what they gotta say.
I'm gonna check out more people's blogrolls and hopefully find some more hidden treasures.

I'm gonna do what I do, comment where I want to comment and not even take the ish personally if folk don't return to comment. Me being interested in what you have to say today, don't mean that you have to be interested in my own tori. Abi now?

A new blogroll may pop up, I may decide that I'm tired of looking for folk but for now, it's gone with the wind.

And with that said, happy happy blogging y'all.

Peace & Love.

P.S:- I miss my Godsis... Ms. Sula. If any of you is hiding her, I say before I open and close my eyes, release am o!

P.P.S:- I have so much stuff swirling around in my head, you may see way more frequent updates.

i totally feel you.
my blogroll is for the people i regularly read. i may not comment on their EVERY post, cos frankly sometimes i dont know what to say or im not interested in that particular post. sometimes i feel guilty, but thats the way it is.
sometimes people who write poems are regular on my blog, and God knows im ADD when it comes to reading poems.
you dont have to feel obligated to any blog.

My blogroll vanished when i moved to Wordpress.. I did a Yahoo pipes version in HTML that worked but thanks to Bumight I found google reader - so the blogroll died officially.. Fairly recently - no thanks to my Naija internet issues - i built a huge back log of unread blogs - from 250+ blogs - it was then i finally had the nerve to declutter and start commenting on only what made sense to me.. If it works for you. then that's fine..

Lol, I feel you on that one, but I've never had the urge to be a comment whore, unless its really interesting I can't be bothered. Its like blogs that are strictly fashion, I have absolutely nothing to say to them, I mean I love clothes and all but sometimes I couldn't give a flying saucepan about Proenza Schouler SS09. I go to some blogs and I see 60 sumn comments on the randomest ish like "getting ready to go out, hope I have fun tonight" and I'm just like seeeen. Lol, don't get me wrong I love to have people comment on what I've written but I feel like its become a do me, I do you kinda sturvs.

i feel u on this...i have a blogroll out of sheer laziness. I've found people who's blog personalities i like and as such want to see what they have to say from time to time. I might not always be able to relate, or sometimes might not be kept interested long enough to read all of it...and such times, I leave it, and wait till they have something for me, which they never fail to do.

I'd rather not comment at all than leave a "that was deep" or "word" or "wow" or...u catch my drift.

hahahahahahahaha.....sooo TRUE...funny thing is that I hAVE all my fav. blogs memorized, if its not memeorized its written down, I guess dats old school, but I can't be bothred to be effin around wit da whole blog settin thngy.

Oh and I think I fixed da comment thingy, it effed up after I changed my template.

Lol…this woman u don come again…but norring do you jare…

Funny I read your last post but chose not to comment cos I had nothing to say/add…

Before i joined blogger I only stalked baba alaye’s, tinuke’s (dear seun) blog and bimbylad’s blog and that was hard work. But I didn’t want to miss out on anything and everything they had to say... i miss them

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that people take the blogroll thing personally but I am…they do? Really?! Okayeeee!!!…

Sure I have a staple of bloggers that I generally like what they say or how they say it but I’m always deleting people and adding others to my blogroll…it is my personal taste jo… honestly if someone has a problem with it my response is ‘so what, bite me!’

blogrolls I like because for times when sparodic but creative bloggers like carlang and allied update

I read Jeremy Weate’s naijablog, naijagirl’s blog, laspapi’s blog, and chxta’s blog all the time but I have commented less than a dozen times on all 4 blogs in total…

Commenting is not by force o! And neither is blogrolling jare!

p.s
i prefer using comments to find new talent becos i find that what someone says is a better reflection of who they are compared to a recommendation on a blogroll but blogrolls are a cool way to find new bloggers…and I agree that they certainly should not be a limiting factor so if deleting it is what works for you…kudos.

I feel you on the asbesnt blogroll. Did the same thing myself.
Also about the to comment or not comment matter, sometimes I feel like i don't get enough comments, and then i visit some random blog and find myself blogrolled and i feel kinda honoured, plus there's feedjit, which tells you people read, but not everyone has something to say.

And there's sooo many blogs now, i can't even keep up!

lol! I don't blame you. That's why i don't do blogrolls. I completely enjoy hopping =)

Geez! You scared me! I thought you said Bye Bye Blogville. ::says a silent prayer of gratitude to God::

I read a LOT of blogs and make comments on only a few. Don't ask me why. Expanding you horizon is a good thing.

LOL @ wetin consain me with you and the grocery store?

I read and comment on people's blogs as the spirit leads. No be work, dem no dey pay me put. I read a lot of blogs that i have no idea what to say after reading, or i don't feel like posting a comment, so i leave quietly. I can go long periods just putting up posts without reading other people's blogs also.

As the spirit leads, my sister.

Me sef o! I thought it was "bye-bye blogvilee!" Phew!

The funny thing is that I don't even follow my own blogroll. It's just like some wall decoration. I rather prefer to hop from blog to blog randomly.

Karry go!

im the type that feels obliged to visit every blogger that leaves a comment on my posts and leave comments on theirs whether i have anything sensible to say or not..i dunno, i just feel its only fair..lol..

I have been released dear. And I missed ya kindly.

I really don't take it personal when people don't comment on my posts. I have blogs I visit regularly and I know the people have never set foot on mine. I like to read things that I find interesting and comment when I feel like I'll have something to contribute.

When it becomes a duty or something to do, it's contriving and folks are not being real. I am all for read and comment whenever you feel like it. That's the idea.

(I am catching up ooo, you'll see many of my comments today. :D)
